1 Peter 2:6 “and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”
OneWord365 has started a community of people who use one word resolutely to change their lives in one year. The gist is, instead of making a News Year’s resolution, make a New Year’s word to live by.My One Word for 2014 was #Trust. It’s the same word I am using this year in 2015 because I’m still not settled in this lesson on learning how to fully trust God.
Do you remember that childhood game?
The one where you stand in front of a friend (hopefully one bigger and stronger than you) with your back to them, so you can’t see them, and you can’t feel them close, but you’re supposed to trust that they’re there and they will catch you when they tell you to fall?
Yeah, that one, the one that put a knot in your stomach or a smile on your face.
I was never any good at that game.
I would always bend my knees and end up on the ground instead of safely in strong arms that reached out ready to catch my trust fall.
That’s why this year’s word is the same for me. Because I bent my knees again when Jesus told me he would catch me. It’s taking me several tries to learn lessons he wants to teach me. I’m doing my best and he is right there, catching me, each time I finally let go and trust him. And when I do, the achy pit in my stomach goes away and I get a huge smile on my face. I think, “I did it!” and there is more amazement at myself for actually trusting than doubting he would be there.
Maybe that’s one thing Jesus meant when he said,
“Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” -Mark 10:15 NIV
You have to trust Jesus.
Trust him to hear you, trust him to be there, trust him to catch you.
Every time.
The lessons you will learn, and the faith that will grow from trusting Jesus will break boarders you have that you didn’t even realize.
You will have enlarged your life.
Have you ever seen how high a child can fly when they trust their Father to catch them?
Oh, and the smile on their face!
